Old Plantation: high energy level

A "Grand Opening Party offi'cially launched The Old Plantation of Akron into the Ohio bar scene Saturday November 10, ̧ 1979. A champagne buffet highlighted the evening which saw many anxious party-goers from the, Cleveland, Akron/Canton and Youngstown/Warren areas crowded into the new club.

With some rennovation, this club, located at 419 Kenmore Boulevard (formerly the Ameri-

can Bar Disco), now features a deep south, Antebellum decor. The most noticeable example of this type decor is in the game room which combines a game room and a parlor atmosphere into one expression of fun and relaxation. Additional remodeling and changes are on the drawingboard and are to be completed in early 1980.

A newly updated light show and sound system are among the

more noteworthy changes at Old Plantation. Rotating helicopter beacons siren beacons rain lights, new neon lights and mirror balls as well as floor and ceiling Tivoli lights blast excitement and energy onto the partially glass-enclosed and mirrored dance floor. A fog machine and a Cerwin-Vega sound system round out the additions to both shows.

Two large bars one toward he back and one near the dance floor, allow for quick and efficient drink-service. However, a third bar is still being planned.

Off-street parking is provided in a large. guarded lot adjacent to the club.

The Old Plantation appears to draw a large, mixed crowd which has a high energy level party down" feel to it
